CITY OF WIND

-The city within the valleys-

The wind blows gently, across the glittering Pacific Ocean. And above the clouds, over the mountains was a small city, located among the valleys and the ocean. A small and peaceful city, which told many tales.

A white van hauled to a stop in front of an apartment. A young girl in her teens, with beautiful brown hair and hazel eyes alighted. Her white silk dress blew elegantly in the wind. She took off her hat and tilted her head to a certain unit located above. Then, taking a deep breath, she started unloading from the van. She searched in her bag and took out a bunch of keys. On the tag, it said “04-17”.

She made her way to the fourth floor with all her belongings and searched for her room. Finally, at the corner of the roll of rooms, was a gold plated number 17, pasted on the wooden door. As she stood in front of her new home, she could feel a cooling breeze from the gap between the door and the floor. She opened the door. The house was bare. The living room only consisted of a dark wooden shelf, with a television , and a small table in the middle of the room. She went into her bedroom with her stuff. There was a small veranda behind a slide door, made of glass. Her bedroom had a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. The sun was setting and the water sparkled with variety of colors. She slid open the door. As she stepped out, a strong breeze started blowing. It carried the sense of mountains and a gentle smell of lavender from the fields nearby. The air felt fresh. Unlike the place she was from.

She was born in Tokyo. She stayed there with her father in a small apartment. Her father did not have a good income so, she had to work a part time job to support herself. Her father always comes home late and most of the time, drunk. 10 days after her 14th birthday, her father was involved in a car accident and died due to severe blood loss. Since then, she had been living with her aunts. Then, just a few months ago, her aunts had to move to America. Since they could not effort to take her along with them, they decided to move her to a small city, knowing that she knew how to take good care of herself.

Suddenly, she saw a silver flash of light moving at a great speed, across the mountains. She squinted her eyes but could not see where the flash was from. She looked down at her watch. It was already seven. She was too tired to unpack her belongings, so she decided to sleep. She walked to her bed, which was just a mattress with several blankets on top of it. She jumped and sank into her bed and within minutes, she was asleep.
That night, she had the strangest dream. She dreamt that she was on a hill, watching the sunset. And there was someone beside her. A guy. He was holding her hand with a firm grip, as though she was slipping away from him. She could feel his warmth, love and sadness. She took a look at him. She saw tears rolling down his pale cheeks. But no matter how hard she tried, her vision blurred every time she wanted to see his face.

Suddenly, she was awaken by the sunlight piercing through her eyes. As she laid in bed, she tried to remember the dream she had, but no matter how hard she tried, she could not remember the guy she was with. Everything was a blur. She took a look at her watch. It was already 8.45.

She dragged herself out of bed, knowing she had a lot of stuff to do that day, there was no time for her to be lazy. She strolled to the kitchen and opened the fridge. Then, she remembered that she had not bought any groceries. She took her purse and decided to go to the nearby market to get some breakfast. She could also explore her new neighborhood on her way home.

She shut the door behind her and locked it. As she walked down the narrow staircase, a young girl popped out in front of her. Her wavy blonde hair was held up in two pig tails with a pig ribbon on each side. Her big aqua blue eyes were filled with mischief and happiness.
